California’s individual legal services nonprofits are heroes in their local communities. They serve thousands of clients each year with creativity and compassion in the face of overwhelming need and constant underfunding. Due to the lack of adequate resources, legal services nonprofits can only help one-third of the people who need their services.
Because California’s legal services nonprofits struggle to serve as many clients as possible within limited budgets, they need support to provide outreach to eligible clients, adequate technology for staff, access to training for advocates, and ways to utilize external resources such as law students and other volunteers. Just as California’s legal services nonprofits support their clients, these organizations need support themselves – a statewide support center to assist them.
